About Us

We are citizens who are very concerned about the many possible dangerous outcomes of this proposed shooting range. We are pooling our efforts in an attempt to compel Shasta County to conduct a responsible, accurate Environmental Impact Report before proceeding with development.

Many of us are gun owners who appreciate the idea of a safe training and competition facility. The proposed range is not safe, nor is the local area appropriate for large gatherings or competitions. Other ranges with similar facilities are located on much larger properties without homes and businesses nearby.

We are neighbors and community members who appreciate the quiet, calm area. We are concerned about the increased risk of fire, and about the dangers of evacuating large numbers of people and vehicles. Many of us have livestock and pets in the area and are concerned about the safety and well-being of our animals.

When we learned of this project, we expressed our concerns to the County Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors. After reviewing the documentation and not finding reassuring answers that safety was adequately addressed, we hired an attorney to advise us on the project. After reviewing the proposal the attorney shared our safety and environmental concerns. He encouraged us to hire outside experts to review the documents.

If the experts had replied with little concern of problems, we would not be pursuing this lawsuit. However the experts submitted lengthy and extensive reports in excess of 60 pages documenting flaws with the proposal. This brings into question not only the safety of proceeding with this project, but also the quality of work being produced by our Department of Resource Management. Are Shasta County citizens getting our money's worth from the Department of Resource Management?
